Your audio never leaves your device
MediaPilot was built privacy-first. The AI model ships inside the extension and runs entirely on your machine. No servers, no cloud, no tracking — ever.
Last updated: September 2026
- 100% local processing. The AI model runs on your device — no server or backend exists.
- No cloud upload. Your audio is never sent anywhere, ever.
- No data collection. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking.
- Tab capture only on demand. Audio capture starts only when you turn the feature on, and stops the moment you turn it off or close the tab.
What we collect
Nothing. MediaPilot does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data, browsing history, audio content, or usage statistics. There is no backend server — the extension is entirely self-contained.
How the audio cleaning works
When you toggle Clean Audio on, MediaPilot uses your browser's tabCapture API to access the audio playing in the current tab. This audio stream is processed locally by an AI model that runs inside the extension. The cleaned audio is then played back to you in real time.
At no point is the audio data sent to any server. When you toggle the feature off or close the tab, the audio capture stops immediately and all in-memory audio buffers are discarded.
Permissions explained
- tabCapture — Used to access tab audio for on-device cleaning. Active only while Clean Audio is turned on.
- storage — Saves your preferences (intensity, playback speed, volume boost, shortcut bindings) locally in your browser. Syncs across your devices via Chrome Sync if enabled.
- commands — Enables keyboard shortcuts for toggling features without opening the popup.
- host_permissions (youtube.com) — Required for Focus Mode layout changes and Shorts Limit on YouTube. Does not access page content for data collection.
Settings and per-site memory
MediaPilot remembers your preferences per website (cleaning intensity, playback speed, volume boost level, video focus). These settings are stored locally in chrome.storage.sync and synced across your devices if Chrome Sync is enabled. No website URLs or browsing history are sent to any server — the storage is local to your browser.
Third-party services
MediaPilot does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The extension contains no external network requests except the Chrome Web Store listing page (when you click "Add to Chrome" or "Leave a review") and the Ko-fi donation page (when you click "Donate"). These open in a new tab and are governed by their respective privacy policies.
Children's privacy
MediaPilot is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, regardless of age.
Changes to this policy
If the privacy practices ever change, this page will be updated. Since there is no data collection, changes would only occur if new features require new permissions — in which case the extension would request them explicitly upon update.
